The NHSC is for primary care providers.

They should work full-time on a site approved by the NHSC.

Often, these sites are in areas experiencing a shortage of health care professionals.

If the area has an extreme and critical shortage, up to $50,000 of the applicant’s loan can be forgiven.

Other requirements for the NHSC program include hourly minimums:

The applicant must work full-time for two years (32 hours per week).

Or, if working part-time, an applicant may receive up to $25,000.

NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program

The NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program forgives 60% of an applicant’s loan.

And like the NHSC, the applicant  must work for two consecutive years, for 32 hours a week,  in an area with a critical shortage.

If the applicant chooses to work for a third year in this context, another 25% of their educational debt will be eliminated.
